2008 Fall: IN PROCESS and COMING SOON
The JGA Expedition Trailer gets a face lift PART II
After the frame was built, I decided I was going to turn it into a fully self contained unit. I attempted to mock the Army trailer with Duck Canvas Tarp. I started by using a plastic tarp as a template when I finally realized...I'm a chef. I don't know how to sew, or make templates for that matter...unless it is food. My mind just doesn't think that way. So I searched around on the web for tent companies in Denver. I found Denver Tent Company...go figure easy enough. I explained that I was a chef and wanted a custom tent made for my Extreme Culinary Adventure Trailer........

 2008 SUMMERS END:
The JGA Expedition Trailer gets a face lift. 8/30/08 - 9/1/08
After using my trailer once as a sleeping unit in the Mojave Desert I kept thinking to myself how can I make more room. I also wanted a place to mount the spare tire for the trailer. With an additional child (2 kids now and dog) I definitely need to make additional room in my Jeep. I had a Landrunner Roofrack for my TJ that had not been in use for about 3 years just hanging in my garage taking up space. Labor Day weekend I siezed the opportunity to do two things: 1. Chop and weld stuff and 2. Enhance the Brew Reviews in the D.I.R.T. section. Although not completely finished the following pictures are where I got to with the trailer. I cut apart the original rack and began eyeballing and measuring how it would fit on the already killer trailer. I used my old soft top that had been cut to fit the original trailer set up. The final photo is just an example of what the trailer will eventually be. Will post up more as it progresses.

Future modifications will include:
Tent mounted (Tent Cot) to the top. Aluminum or Metal fold out sides to make the unit lockable.
and the fold out sides to do double duty as prep/table space. Full military canvas top? Battery mount, for lights and other gadjets as well as extra gas and water mounts. The major modification one day might be mounting a secondary 15 gallon gas tank along underside of frame.

MAY/JUNE
BREATHE MAN... BREATHE!
I have run open air K&N for years with a cheapo plastic Auto Zone tube system. Works great except my filter for years banged around a little and didn't have a shroud for all the colder air. I recently had a spark-plug issue on the D.D. Ford Expedition and in doing the swap I got a cold air intake for it. With all the excess plastic pieces and a little southern ingenuity I saw the opportunity I had been looking for. I took off the K&N filter from the Jeep, cleaned it as it needed it. I then looked at the big burley V-8 plastic filter shroud from my Ford and thought...I can make this happen. With a hack saw I cut about 3/4" down the small side. This would perfectly allow the filter to fit through as well as permit me to tighten the filter on the tube. I have since noticed a little better throttle response and we'll see what else. The heavy duty plastic shroud is built to deflect heat and it fits perfectly. I am considering on how to hard mount with the ability to easily take off the filter for cleaning. A future write-up for sure if I get it figured out. Should be easy as there are two prongs on the shroud that would do well by drilling in the stock fan shroud and setting them in there.

The cool thing now is when I open the hood there is a big 'ol honkin piece of shroud, looks legit and even has a V-8 sticker on it (bottom right picture). The sticker alone makes it go faster I'm sure I'd say about 5HP gain at least!

Fitness Tip Continued....
Trimming to look good for the summer season, no bikini bra's here though!
Right underneath the front fender trimmed the triangular piece of sheetmetal out.
Used my little cutoff airtool. Took a long time to do but came out with
a nice clean edge and it looks much better.
(Took the pics with my Motorola phone sorry for the fuzziness)!

Freezer Packs: My wife and I use old soda bottles 2 liter or big gulps as freezer packs. Fill with water freeze and use to keep stuff cold. Once thawed it can double as an emergency beverage or to cool an overheated radiator.

EASY COFFEE for the trail.
From: JGA SOUS CHEF: IRV K. of www.JeepExpeditions.org
Are you familiar with liquid coffee concentrate. It comes in handy for making coffee on the trail without the time and cleanup of percolated coffee. It's not great coffee but it's pretty good--especially for large groups.
• You can make your own liquid:
